Today’s ZPF GmbH is based on the unique vision that combines the efficient use of both energy and space.
The company’s founder Stefan Fruh accumulated decades of experience in the construction of furnaces and that helped transform his vision into a highly innovative furnace system. He laid the foundations for a company in 1993 together with his son-in-law Klaus Zepek. They called it ZPF.

The company’s founder Stefan Fruh accumulated decades of experience in the construction of furnaces and that helped transform his vision into a highly innovative furnace system. He laid the foundations for a company in 1993 together with his son-in-law Klaus Zepek. They called it ZPF. The company is owned today by Professor Dr.-Ing. Hubertus Semrau and Norbert Feth. As managing partners, it is they who lead and continue to develop the company’s vision and pioneering work in the building of melting furnaces.
A vision becomes reality
ZPF’s success story began with the development of the innovative “reverse” closed furnace system in which, contrary to their natural inclination, hot gases are guided not from the bottom to the top, but from the top to the bottom. This means that the hot gases move much slower and therefore spend much longer in the interior of the furnace. That is what makes the ZPF furnace system famously energy-efficient and guarantees eco-friendly performance without the need for additional exhaust filter systems.
Location as trademark
ZPF has always relied on German innovation.
All of its globally supplied products are made in Siegelsbach, where select, high-grade materials are transformed by industry experts into customised, standard-setting, high-end masterpieces.
Researching the future
One example of just how driven we are in innovation is the optimised harnessing of heat. But a pioneering invention alone is not enough for ZPF.
The company works together with numerous big-name research institutes to keep developing pioneering solutions and systems. This allows us to continuously evolve the energy-efficiency of our furnace systems across a range of disciplines.

Optimised hot gas flow and material properties
Sophisticated simulation programs and sensor technology are used to determine the way the hot gases are routed through the furnace in order to achieve the best possible melting and heat-retaining effect. ZPF GmbH also uses them to ascertain the most effective combination of insulating materials and other primary furnace parameters.
ZPF systems are high-quality and extremely durable. This allows them to be scientifically analysed at the customer’s premises whilst the overall process is ongoing, and helps us to keep developing them. Customised ZPF systems are therefore subject to a constant process of optimisation.
Our company has its finger on the pulse. Professionals in the building of melting furnaces, we use an increasing proportion of alternative and new materials, and we help to develop them. And it pays off: our R&D work, for instance, is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
But a pioneering invention alone is not enough for ZPF.
